I CAN'T SLEEP and it's DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!! This isn't supposed to happen to me.... I can normally sleep at the drop of a hat. Someone says SLEEP and I will do it within 5 min. This totally blows. Not to mention the fact that I have a 12 hour shift in like 3 hours. I BLOODY hate these Night/ Day rotations.
This is a note to you Gord:
Do not rotate to more than 2 types of shifts. Your body will thank you. I can work a 7am day shift on a normal schedule with not much sleep deprivation. My natural tendency is to go to bet at Midnight. I wake up at 6 for 7am work... after a couple hours into my shift I can work until whenever (and have on occasion, working 16 hour days etc.). This week I had nightshifts (11pm to 7am) and The whole week was shot to hell because, I had to prepare myself to stay up all night. The first day is never usually a problem... it's like partying all night... living off adrenalin etc. I haven't been on nights so I am super aware of the routine so I don't make any mistakes.... then I get home and I CRASH. I'll sleep till 4,5 or 6 pm. wake up still tired and VERY lethargic (and I thought I could go swimming! HA!) Next Shift SUCKS ASS. I'm tired, living off Coffee after I so successfully weaned myself off during day shifts. Falling asleep at 3am when it's quiet and can't get back in the groove at 5am when everyone is asking you for a million things. Indigestion, breathing problems, and other health related issues plague me during the day and night that I work this shift. It wouldn't be a problem if it was permanent nights... but even then I'd be hormonal to the extreme 'cause I need sunlight. And then I come home after night number 2 and I sleep even longer.
What is far worse though, is knowing that you have a day shift schedule to get acclimated to... and CAN'T. My body sleeps during the day 'cause it's tired... then sleeps during the night a little.... but not long enough... so then I'm up..... until I have to go to work (which is physically and mentally exhausting) DAMMIT!!!!
In better news though... I went to see the Harlem Globetrotters yesterday (after I woke up from my night shift ;') ) They were Awesome. I hadn't seen them since I was little, and even then it was only on Sesame Street or the Cartoon version of them. O MI God was it funny. The only thing that upstaged them during the performance was this Big inflatable mascot of a person with a Globe for a head. He was called the "Big G" and he'd walk around and dance to music and then allofa sudden do a face plant into the ground.... pick himself up and then keep dancing.... Made all the little kids laugh really hard.... Aswell as ME. I gotta lot of looks from the Physics crew I was with... Ohh well. I'm a kid at heart.
