Volunteer
So I volunteered for the first time at Planned Parenthood and I gotta say, this was a fascinating experience. I was introduced to Gyne procedures and ultrasound sizing of Pregnancies. The first part, I watched a doctor do a Colposcopy (A biopsy of the cervix using a scope). that was interesting. I could go into detail about what happens but I'd rather not gross everyone out. instead you can email me. The second part was women would come in for Ultrasounds to determine that YES they are pregnant. I saw one pregnancy that was 6 weeks old. Wow. Looked so cool on the ultrasound. then I observed how women react to knowing they are pregnant. Some were very stoic and others were very upset.... but the funny thing... not one women out of all of them were initially excited.... but it kinda makes sense. Babies change people's lives forever...
the third part was participating in the counseling for a woman choosing birthcontrol... I watched as the nurse explained the options to a girl (she chose her old birth control method 'cause it made her breasts bigger. I never thought of choosing one for that. that made me chuckle a little)
Next week is some recovery room exposure. I'm a little nervous about passing the protesters. tho.
