Eustace had woken up feeling dirty. Not just unshowered (though he was that; how he'd managed to go to sleep the night before without a proper bath was beyond him) but gritty, like he could feel the weeks' worth of sand and salt ground into his skin. He couldn't believe he'd been living outside for so long. It was horrifying, and he knew he must remedy it instantly.
Getting up and not even bothering to check and see if Caspian was awake or not, he made a beeline for the compound. After a long soak in the tub he found himself new, clean clothes from the bin and went to sit in the rec room with a book. It was so nice inside; he was so glad there were books, otherwise he might've had to amuse himself outside. The very thought was enough to make him shudder.
