On Monday Matt invited us round as he was burning some off his garden rubbish. Mainly the wooden fence he's just ripped out and replaced. I took my camera despite Carl telling me I wouldn't get any decent pictures as it'd be too dark. However, I proved him wrong!, I've recently mastered shooting in manual and I managed to get some fab pictures of ( Read more... )

:) I saw them earlier they look great manual is the way to go my teachers said to me auto is banned get away from auto you are no longer allowed to use auto lol best lesson really it made me go find our more :D check out you tube Jared polin fro knows photo he is brilliant ;) the best book I've ever read which was like the bible for uni Langford's Basic Photography: The Guide for Serious Photographers
http://amazon.co.uk/dp/0240521684 it really explains everything and breaks it down without being to harsh lol :) what I'd do is ban yourself from using auto again av is aperture Priority mode where is will chose the priority aperture for your situation I always find that good for portraits or shutter Priority for faster paced stuff I never let my ISO go above 1600 on a overcast day most cases ISO should be 400 at night obviously higher :D I love manual because you have full control learning how to read the meter is the trick for landscapes I always shoot a half stop below and for anything else I shoot a half stop above but you pretty much want your marker to be in the middle of the line :) try stay away from auto ISO because again the most comfortable you are with metering the better :D it will help you learn your camera and what it can and can't do :D normal studio settings are 1/160th of a second ISO 100 f.56 or f8 depending on lights and lastly purchase a speed light and play with it the yunago ones are cheap as chips lol I've been using them for years I'm not against expensive ones but for me they work I use higher powered rechargeable battery's so they last longer but there sets are infa red so you can use more than one quite comfortably without triggers (providing it's not an even where LOTS of other cameras are going off if it is you'll need a trigger) honestly though best way to learn is to do exactly what your doing and having fun :D xxx
