Just got the COBRA forms & bill. Ouch. Suffice to say that it's about a month's rent to cover the wife & I. However, in order to keep even larger bills fom heading our way, I don't have much of a choice.
Why is it that almost every other English-speaking nation that I can think of has a system by which health insurance is attached not to your employment, but to your birth certificate or naturalization papers? Why are Americans supposedly content with the system we've got? I'm not. Anyone who claims that single-payer leads to "death panels" will have to contend with the fact that people who can't afford insurance have been priced out of our system anyway, & that insurance companies pick & choose as to what they'll cover & what they won't cover, again pricing people out of our system.
