Insurance Questions

So I'm getting kicked off my parents' insurance soon and I need to get my own. I've been told to go through the commonwealth something or other program because I cannot get insurance through work.
How did you choose whatever program you use? Where do I begin? Any recommendations for programs? ANY information?
