Hi, everybody. I have two small-ish theatrical projects checked off my list, and I have a job and a roommate!
THEATRICAL ENDEAVORS (COMPLETED):
~The playreading was stressful, but it went fine and it's OVER. An actress dropped out after the first rehearsal, and I spent two days calling random people. We ended up cancelling the first performance due to weather (which was good, since I still didn't have a replacement as of that morning), and I found someone willing to work with me one-on-one. She didn't meet the cast until minutes before the performance, but she did fine.
~The touring show I directed for
Curio Theatre Company had its first performance this morning, so I'm done with that. I've been told it went really well. I'm tagging along tomorrow just so I see it.
THEATRICAL ENDEAVORS (CURRENT):
~Started rehearsals last night for
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Part 2, also at Curio. It's basically radio plays done live, with animated backgrounds and projections. I'm Arthur Dent, Marvin the Depressed Android, and a dozen other characters. Part 1 was really cool last year (I wasn't in it, I just saw it), and this year should go even further with the technical aspects. Come see it if you're in Philly! March 15-April 7.
~The playwright for this 70s romantic comedy has made a deposit on a performance space, so we're moving ahead with scheduling auditions and things.
~In between those two projects is Curio's final show, which is an improvised commedia show based on the Carlo Gozzi play "The Green Bird." I'm Stage Managing as well as Assistant Directing. It's going to be wild, with puppets and all kinds of nonsense.
OTHER:
~I HAVE A JOB! I'm going to be on the seasonal staff of
Eastern State Penitentiary. It's an extremely historic ruin of one of the first modern prisons. It now has art installations, reenactments and other theatrical goings-on, a hardcore haunted house in October, film and photography shoots, audio tours, guided tours, paranormal phenomena investigations, and all sorts of other fun stuff. The history on the website is fascinating, check it out when you have a minute. This place had central heating and indoor plumbing before the White House. I start training a week from tomorrow.
~After showing my apartment to a dozen people, and dealing with twice as many weirdos on Craigslist, I HAVE A NEW ROOMMATE! His name is Zack, we have quite a bit in common. He works as a case manager with the homeless during the day, and at night he sometimes hosts those advance screenings that movies have. So he has all kinds of access to free movie tickets... plus he has an Xbox (which will demand a certain amount of self-discipline on my part, or else I'll get nothing done... there's a reason I don't own one of those myself). He also does stand-up comedy, but hasn't recently.
He has a strange website for his comedy and weird haikus. He put his name on the lease early this morning, so now *current roommate* and I can stop arguing about who should pay what for March rent.
~*Current roommate* moved out 98% of her stuff on Saturday. I have no TV or can opener at the moment, but I'm surviving thanks to my NBC Nightly News podcasts, and the fact that all my soup cans have pull-tabs on their lids.
~I'm about half done with my taxes.
