to a trip home for me. I'm getting really wishy washy and emotional and will probably cry on the car ride home. that's just how I roll.
Lets back it up to last weekend....WRESTLEMANIA 23 extravaganza! After work on Saturday, went home to drop off my work stuff..then Dad got into town right on time. Went straight to Ford Field from there. Now when we got there, we were able to find a great parking spot super close to the field. Little did we know, there was a good reason for it. AND a good reason that 'Fan Fest' was 100% free to the public.
It left a TON to be desired. The whole thing only filled about 1 hallway of the outside ring of the arena. There wasn't a TON to do...trivia, photo ops with scenery, and call-a-match. So after we did a lap of the concourse, we decided to make the most of our time out there and waited in line for Call-A-Match. THis was totally reminiscent of our Cleveland Indians FanCast Booth session from back in the day. Except this time, I was a bit more vocal and didn't dwell on Carlos Baerga the whole damn time. We called a match between Chris Benoit and K.C. James from Nov. 10th 2006 in Columbus. It turned out way better than I anticipated...even though I really had to dig deep in my brain and remember names of the actual moves. Luckily for us, most of the 90 seconds we called consisted of German suplexes. But it was super fun. Eat it Michael Cole and Taz...Piper and JF are gunning for your jobs.
Made it back to Toledo around 5:30ish...then Dad went back to his hotel to relax for a bit. I took a nap in my recliner and he was back over around 7:30 so we could go to dinner. He was dead set on Fujiyama...and i had brought up Bistro Wasabi at Levis Commons. The funny thing was, when he was at the hotel earlier in the day, he noticed an ad for it...and really wanted to go there. So the decision was made. More about out sushi experience in
The Kitchen. We had a great time...holy shit talked about politics and a whole bunch of crap! Picked up a much needed sulawesi at the Bucks before going back to BG for a 2nd night in a row.
The april fools day show is always something special. I was glad pops got to experience something we've been attending for the past 4 years. PLUS i got to see jon and alot of other folks i hadn't seen in a very long time. STTW, Press Gang, Piccuto, and Treysuno were all good at what they were doing...but shit, BlooDumpster's Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers stole the show in my book. Just like the night before, they seemed to be better with the additional members to the band. cheers bloodumpster. I picked up another copy of the new Treysuno cd to mail as part of a special birthday delivery to nick...then we headed home. Dad had a good time...i think he was a little wasted by the end of the night. But i was exhausted too...so it might have been me who was swerving. ha.
Crashed hard that night, only to wake up about 4 hours later to work out and then head to church. I was able to make it there...then get all my groc-ing done before Dad made it to my apartment around 1 so we could get to breakfast, then on the road to Detroit!
Uncle Johns put us in good spirits to get on the bus to Wrestlemania. Met up with everyone at Dorr Street Cafe, then proceeded to be on the bus from 3:30 to 6:30. Traffic was hellacious but at least we got there about 20 minutes before the PPV actually started. It was a hell of alot better than spending extra time at the arena sitting around being bored. Plus on the bus, we watched the Ultimate Warrior DVD...what a weird effin dude.
In the Fink family, we believe that there are a handful of sporting events that one MUST attend at least once in their lifetimes. for example, a World Cup Game...a Kentucky Derby, etc. etc. Wrestlemania is one of those events! It didn't matter that i hadn't really watched the WWE for a good 4 years or so (*since i lost cable TV). When the lights went down and the pre-PPV music started i still got chills. It was insane to think that Dad and I finally made it to a Wrestlemania. I watched just about each match intently...and the Undertaker and Batista was probably the best one out of all of them. Super cool to see the Hall of Famers...and Sabu and Sandman in the ECW Old school vs new school match. Honestly, it was overwhelming at one point....
The whole night ended unfortuantely with Shawn Michaels losing...BUT i had a hell of a time. Definitely something I'm thankful to have shared with my Dad. I could tell he was really having a good time too...and that means alot to me. Pops even surprised me with a tshirt at the end of night. awwww. Herded everyone back on the bus and I napped all the way back to Toledo. Dad dropped me off and it was an awkward happy goodbye. I had to be in at work by myself in the morning...so i wouldn't be able to see him before he left to get back home. It was weird hearing him actually say he had fun and stuff...because he's not usually vocal about that stuff. THen in classic Dad fashion....he had to cap the happy moment by saying 'get out of the car...i just farted and stinks.' thanks dad.
Passed out when i got in the door and was dead to the world until about 6:30am. Monday was alright at work...got a lot done even though Dave wasn't there. Went home to change out of my dress and then Tyler was nice enough to accompany me to get some shopping done for upcoming baby showers. the thing about that is...once i start, its very hard for me to stop. But eventually had to. My checking account can only allow me to spend so much. ha. After shopping...spent the rest of the night watching Chicken Little and giggling like a little girl.
Tuesday all I did was work, head back to the store to get something that wasn't in the bags i brough home the night before and that's about it. my poor body refused to do anything else. I had been going on none sleep (no complaints though) so i needed to play a bit of catch up.
Wednesday was another busy day at work. They decided to close early on Friday, so this means that sales was scrambling to get their orders and prod in before the deadline. GOt home around 6ish...and then Tyler swung by after he got off work. Just hung out...went to Old Navy...then more hanging uut after.
Thursday I was going to go out to BG...but TYler ended up working until @10ish...good thing i didn't go either...i would have passed out on the side of the road or something. But i did go to Maundy Thursday service at church to get in communion before Easter.
Friday i actually slept in till @8ish..because Dave was nice enough to give me the whole day off since the offices closed at noon and he had to come in to VT anyway. So i got up at my leisure...worked out, grabbed breakfast, went to the library..then to Cake Arts to get Better Cream for the cake I'm making for Easter...then to Target to exchange some clothes i had bought for April's Adri the other day...because i'm a tard and bought a size too small.
THen i went to the banque...cleaned the apartment...off to babies r us to get Cooper his first pair of black Chuck high tops! i'm the best aunt ever! also bought camo sandals for him (the whole once i start i can't stop thing). Came back home, packed most of my stuff for vacation...then made dinner before going to my favorite church service of the year...Good Friday.
That was done around 8:30...the rest of my night was spent packing and reading my new Jane magazine.
I'm at work right now until 2..then darting home to grab the rest of my stuff to start my vacation!!!! I can't believe its finally here. Wednesday i leave for NYC... but before that, i have to get through more shopping for Monica's shower...visiting with April...baking a cake...church tomorrow...Easter at Uncle Bill & Aunt Jennys...THE LOCUST AND CATTLE DECAPITATION on Monday night...the Biermans birthday celebrations on Tuesday. whew. Throw more baking and laundry in there too...and it'll be here before you and i know it.
Its an odd feeling to try and distance yourself emotionally to a certain extent... then feel like you're being pushed away intentionally too.
