I had to stop for gas before I went to work. There wasn't a clump of three people crowding one area of one isle blocking access to the other side like there normally is when I go in, nor were there the same people taking three times longer each to check out than I normally do.
I had to drive to a hospital, which is where I was working today. I got from Conroe to loop 610 in not quite record time, but faster than normal for this time of day. I noticed a lack of pickups billowing smoke and pulling trailers with various types of organic or inorganic waste flying off.
I arrived in the neighborhood a little early, I was counting on the normal traffic clogs for that time of morning. I went into a Fiesta grocery store, there were lots of people inside the store, but I had no difficulty moving from one isle to the next or one area to the next while looking at magazines or that elusive (for a store I had never been in) cold Mountain Dew. Normally I have to almost elbow my way through a grocery store that size even if LESS people were in it.
While I was at the hospital I went straight to the area I was supposed to be in. The staff commented that the E.R. was empty. I commented that I used to have to wait three hours to see a doctor every time I broken a bone. They told me this hospital usually has to refer most E.R. patients to another hospital because they have so many "emergency" patients.
The drive back home was just as smooth as the drive there, except for the normal San Jacinto River bridge pile up that killed people during the Rita evacuations.
I don't think one day is going to convince me. I think it's going to take at least a month, and if that doesn't do it, perhaps a season.
I know I've ranted about that bottle neck online before, but I couldn't find the old rants, when I do I'll link this to it.
