Just got back from fishing yesterday

We left Friday afternoon for Port La Vaca, that night we fished. My first cast into the bayou at location 2 brought up both two specled trout, the big one was about 16", the little one was about 5". Damn, didn't expect two lures on a line to equal two fish in a cast. Afterwards I caught a few more trout, doing much better at location 2 than location 1. Whats wierd is I was catching trout, everyone else caught redfish. My uncle caught a 17" redfish, and my granfathers cousin caught its identical twin. Grandpa caught a 14" redfish with TWO spots on its tail, he said it got caught in the stamping machine. My little cousin caught some debris and lost his lures.

The next day the wind blew all day long. All I caught for most of the day was a few hard heads (salt water catfish, useless). I spent most of the day fishing alone, most of the rest of the guys drifted back and forth. The bottom of that bayou must have been packed with crabs standing elbow to elbow, tossing your bait in the water meant you lost it. Unfortunately most of the crabs let go as soon as they hit the air, though my uncle did pull in a huge fiddler. My cousin kicked it back in the water. Not a big deal, unless we pulled in a dozen or so they weren't going to bother with cooking them. They say the wind blowing mucked up the water, thats why the good fish weren't hanging out. Finally at the end of the day I caught a 6" sand trout, got tossed back. To close to the end of the day and we didn't catch enough to justify packing in ice and cleaning.

I got a sunburn on my arms yesterday, that's no big deal. Sunburns on my forearms last about 24 hours and don't hurt unless they're really bad, then only 48 hours. It takes a bad one on my back, neck, or legs before I really feel it or it has any staying power. I guess a lifetime of T-Shirts has conditoned my arms.

We've got fish in the freezer, I can only hope they intend to eat it soon. I can't stand fishing or hunting all weekend not to feast on the victory soon there after.

family, pecosdave
