So, the bus carrying delegates from Virginia was blocked from entering the RNC to keep them from voting against rule changes that are meant to target Ron Paul and prevent his nomination. Basically there's a push from the Romney camp to legalize baring delegates and replacing them with hired replacements.
He's been nominated anyways.
Five states and a territory nominated him despite threats and
rule changes.
I used to be a Republican, years ago, I sort of changed my mind about 12 years ago and it took ten years before I fully changed my mind, but I still held just a little respect for the party - because it used to be more like the person they're changing their rules to keep at bay.
For the past several years when voting by party - you know, those little positions you don't pay attention to in local elections - I would vote Libertarian and Republican was my fall back if there wasn't a Libertarian option, but no more. It's official - on ballot blanks for offices I don't pay a lot of attention to, like dog catcher or whatever I will no longer use Republican as my fall back vote. It's going to be any party but Democrat or Republican or no vote at all. If an individual that I recognize as being an upstanding individual is on the ballot and they happen to be a member of one of those two parties - which is unlikely because the number of people in those two parties that are upstanding are getting less each year - I will vote for them, otherwise I'm out of this pretend two party game all the way.
I can no longer identify the lesser evil.
