With the most recent season of Battle Star Galactica at an end it bothered me that despite the fact I had adopted the series, I still had not seen the original mini series that launched the modern version of the show.
I had some time off due to the hurricane, and staying at home was begining to drive me nuts, so I went to the local Best Buy to get some movies. I picked up several movies and the Battle Star Galactica disk. I was getting ready to leave the store, all of the sudden one of the rolling blackouts Montgomery county is still suffering post storm hit. I was unable to buy my disk, not that I didn't try, I sat down in one of the video rockers they were trying to sell to wait out the black out for quite a while before I left. I gave up.
The next day I decided to try again. I got up to the Best Buy and the power was still out, it was out all over that section of town. I waited outside of the store for nearly two hours since I didn't have anything better to do. Never did come on, so again, I left.
Finally on Wednesday I went back to work. I decided to stop at Fry's Electronics to pick it up on the way home. They didn't have it. The had the entire original series, and the original movie that started the original series, but not the modern stuff. I jumped in my car, pulled the big racetrack routine around the freeway on the access roads to go to the new Best Buy that had just been built down the road. I went in, looked at the TV shows alphabeticaly, it completely skipped over "Battlestar", there were other alphabetical "Battle" movies so I knew I was in the right place. I was about to leave, and I got a feeling to walk around to the other side. I did. The alphabet started over, there it was! Not only that but there was two different version of season 1, the UK version and the US version.
I know that the UK versions of shows are nearly always cooler, so I grabbed that and the original mini series, then I looked back at the US BOX. It was only $1 more than the UK version, but it said it had the miniseries in it. I looked at the UK box, it had not mention of the mini series that I could see. I looked at the runtime of the US version, about 12 1/2 hours, the UK version had a big assed white sticker covering up that info Best Buy used to put their barcode on with. The US version was thicker and heavier than the UK version, so I only guessed that it didn't have the orginal mini series that would have required and extra $20 to walk out with. Only just now did I find out for certain the UK version does not have the mini series.
I finally watched the mini series last night. I loved it, and finally had a few questions answered. I think that I'll watch the second disk tonight that should have the first four or so regular episodes, I'm not certain I ever caught the first few, but I watched all of season two and most of the rest of season one already. I finally got another DVD player and look at me, a junky again already.
