Our old hand control calibration laptop had its touchpad go out. I took it apart, unplugged the touch pad, got the part/model number for it and everything, I found the part used for $50. The laptop was made in 97, it's not worth $50. The boss wants me to find another laptop instead. Remember, this is for a NASA shop, so it needs to be rugged.
Right now I'm browsing for Panasonic Toughbooks. I would like recommendations for other models as well. The computer must have an old fashioned 9 pin serial port on it so that's going to narrow my selection of modern laptops significantly. There's a German company that makes laptops tougher than the Tough Book, but the name eludes me at the moment. If anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to hear them.
