I've seen the rest of you talk about catching up on reading.

I personally don't have as much time to read as I used to, though I'm doing a bit more of it lately. Last weekend I found a real find! 19 years ago was the first and last time I read the Chronicles of Narnia, I was given a book set by my next door neighbor, that for some reason still had the original sequence instead of the modern revised (and approved of by C.S. Lewis) sequence. No problem, I loved the books, loaned them out, and never got them back.

Well, last weekend I found the entire unabridged Chronicles of Narnia audio book set on disk for $10. This wasn't some crap version, The Last Battle was even read by Patrick Stewart. It's the modern order, and I haven't gotten that far yet, I'm in the middle of A Horse and His Boy right now. As you can imagine my brain was a bit rusty after 18 years, so I'm really enjoying the refresher.

I'm glad that I'm listening to these, it's opened up some religious ideas that I was inexplicably ignorant of. For instance I knew next to nothing about Lilith, the woman paired with Adam before Eve in some religious text. I plan to read up on that, it also explains why Lilith Fair is named that. When I read that 18 years ago, at about the age of 12, that escaped me. Having grown up in a far right religious environment, I pretty much grew up under the King James version of teaching. I'm more open minded than that, but there's a lot of catching up to do.

The Magicians Nephew is now considered the first book in the series. I can understand why The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe was the first movie made, name recognition, original order and all. But even back when I was younger it was probably my favorite one of the books, now that I've listened to it again, I think it really could have worked as the first movie. Multiple universe movies have done well as of late, and I really think The Magicians Nephew would have worked as a first movie.

Prince Caspian is supposed to start filming this month. Officially the movies are going to be made "In the order that makes the most since for motion pictures" which so far happens to be in order of original publication. My guess is they'll be made in the order of "most likely to generate the largest profits" in order to build up for the ones with lesser ratings. Turns out my favorite is probably the least favored by fans.

When I finished listening to The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe a couple of nights ago, I went home and watched it again. I caught quite a few creative differences, but overall I would say it was a faithful translation. I don't think a big enough effort was made to establish that Mr. Thomnas did not betray Lucy in the end. I think the made the professor just a little to reclusive. They properly portrayed him as friendly to the children, but the made the house keeper way to much a firewall between him and them. Yes, that much was true, but not to the extreme the movie portrayed. I have no problem with the fact they left out the other three servants who where pretty much unused in the book anyways, I actually like the fact the made Aslan a strictly four legged lion. The book had him using his paws as hands to some degree and walking on two legs at times. The "real lion" approach is quite a welcome change in my book. It made it much more believable. I also can appreciate the some of the animal/mythical beast substitutions that were made between the two, even though I don't see them as absolutely necessary.
