My brief input:
I would stick with Debian official browsers and mail clients unlike the author. I tried the Mozilla Official stuff for a while and got frustrated by plugin issues. Debian official stuff doesn't seem to have those issues, at least not as often.
I wasn't familure with Adept, because of that article I'm installing it now, I've been using Synaptic the whole time.
