The wind picks up and I hear your laughter. I turn and look for you but all I see are branches waving endlessly, always goodbyes reminding me you're gone. As if I could forget...

Forget the way your warm skin smelled under your favorite fleece scarf, the color in your cheeks when autumn nipped at your nose, and most of all the way your eyes would glitter when you looked up at me. I used to love the rustling leaves. I associated their quiet hush with you pressing yourself closer into my side. As the night fell you would inch closer and closer, but now the darkness is the only thing to creep in close under my chin and hold fast to me.
