Stuff to say: if you take the icon credit, don't copy the procedure exactly, made with photoshop, but should be applicable with most graphics programs, have fun!
First start off with your base, mine is from the MCR Clockwork Orange shoot. Okay, so duplicate the background layer (the base) and set it to soft light. It should look like this:
Now duplicate the background layer again and set it to soft light. You'll have this:
So now I created a new layer and set this picture on it:
As shown above, select the part of the picture you want. Press CTRL+SHIFT+I and then it'll do this:
Now press Delete.
Do the same with the new picture as you did with the original base, duplicating it twice and setting both layers to soft light.
Now you can leave it there or you can go on. I added an x-brush (brush credits in the UserInfo)
But I didn't stop there! Tiny text is my most favorite thing in the world, so I took some lyrics I liked and put A LOT of spaces in between the letters and then set it next to the x:
(The brushes and text settings are on "Normal")
I generally add a gradient just to finish things off. It may not seem like it does much, but I think it makes a lot of difference.
Set the gradient to Soft Light and then you have the finished product:
