Simspiration 10/16/10 Marriage of a Family Member

Oct 16, 2010 14:45

This was cross posted over at sim_spiration as well.

She watched them exchange vows and she couldn’t even muster up a fake smile.  She watched them intently as they kissed and watched as neither one of them had a breakdown at the altar.

The bastards.

Mary couldn’t help but feel jealous.  She wasn’t sure who she hated more at the moment:  Eden’s new husband (who she refused to even dignify with a name), or the husband’s family who had insisted on opening the champagne bottle straight away and toasting the newlyweds with their glasses in one hand and that ridiculous “finger gun” gesture with the other.  Even Eden’s shy friend, Laurana, looked fairly comfortable in the company.  Well, as comfortable as someone whose pregnancy was beginning to show could look.  Mary looked away when her new son-in-law’s son (who was the same age!) patted the pregnant girl’s belly and gave her an adoring smile.

Mary ground her teeth as the photographers clamored around and started snapping their pictures.  She could already see the headlines:  “Movie starlet, Eden Devereaux, marries infamous boyfriend and renowned playboy, Rhys Fitzhugh!”

Mary looked at her own husband, Goopy, out of reflex to make sure that he wasn’t getting into trouble that would cause him harm.  On this day he seemed a bit more lucid as the only grilled cheese comment he made was to inquire if the champagne was flavored as such.  She tried very hard to remember how she felt on the day of her own wedding.  Had she felt so obviously in love with Goopy as her own daughter looked when she looked at her new husband?

She realized, regrettably, that her answer was no, and that depressed her.  Where had she gone wrong? she wondered.

“Alright, we need to get everyone together for a family photo,” one of the photographers said.

All of the present Fitzhughs lined up on one side while Mary and Goopy, the extent of Eden’s tiny family, lined up on the other.   Goopy was waving at the cameras like an idiot.  Mary glared over at Eden’s husband as he whispered something into her daughter’s ear while he trailed his fingers over her arm.  Mary heard something like, “…get you out of that dress,” which caused Eden to grin hugely at him.

“It would be nice if there could be a proper photo that didn’t involve the two of you groping each other,” Mary snapped.  “We aren’t filming a pornography here.  It’s a wedding for the love of Bob!”  She winced at the shrill tone in her voice and she could hear the photographers shift uncomfortably.  Eden’s husband gave Mary a challenging look before he gave her a slight, cocky smirk.  The rest of his family remained silent as they watched.

Eden’s husband’s father, Spencer (who was also the same age!), broke the uncomfortable silence by raising his eyebrow as he said, “Okay everyone, let’s smile for the cameras.”

Mary found herself looking at the newlyweds again and she saw how genuinely happy they looked.  The feeling of jealousy and depression washed over her again.  She fought back tears as the cameras snapped their pictures.

I generally don't add pictures to these (and I'm sure you really aren't supposed to) but this picture is very obviously the inspiration for this post.

Hope you liked it :)
