BACKGROUND:
Pearl is part of the famous Fey family, where all the woman are gifted with spiritual powers. Immediate family wise, Pearl only knows her mother- her father left when she was very young. She has two half sisters, who were the product of her mother’s first marriage. That father left as well, but took his children with him.
Pearl starting training her abilities very early, and learned very quickly. She is considered quite the prodigy in spirit channelling, though no matter how good she is she won’t be the head of the family because she was born to the branch family, and not the main family. At least, she won’t unless Maya, her cousin, dies. She would never, ever want that though because she looks up to Maya and absolutely adores her.
Since most of the women in Pearl’s family are pretty busy, she’s learned to be self-efficient and knows how to get around places by herself. She also knows how to entertain herself. One such day she was playing in the gardens with her ball, when she threw it at the wall and, instead of bouncing back like it normally did, it went straight THROUGH the wall. Naturally this worried people, so they got Pearl checked out to find that, like Maya, she had the X-gene- but her added bonus was superstrength. Pearl didn’t want to hurt anyone with her new-found power, and she remember Maya was going off to Xavier’s, so she braved the one phone in the village to try to get herself enrolled.
PERSONALITY:
Pearl is eight years old, and has lived a very sheltered life in the mountains. Because of this, she knows very little about technology- she can barely recognize computers and is very proud of herself when she displays any knowledge of tech. She only has ever known her mother, since her father left when she was very little- and due to the lack of martial success within her family (basically the guys get sick of the girls being the important ones and leave), she holds a fondness for romance stories that have a happy ending. This is why she is so insistent that Maya and Phoenix are each other’s 'special someone' in canon. She's never actually seen a real, functioning relationship, and that plus the fact that she wants her cousin to be happy makes her misinterpret Maya and Phoenix's friendship. She doesn't back down on this at all, either- even when Maya and Phoenix BOTH tell her that they're not dating, she'll still punch Phoenix if she even thinks he's looking at another girl.
The fact that she doesn't know her father brings up another thing- she's very close to her mother, blindingly so. Her mother on several occasions plots against Maya in order to put Pearl at the head of the family when she grew up, to the point of even trying to get Maya killed. Pearl doesn't know about this, because she's convinced that her mother is just doing what's best for the family (without knowing what this entails) and still loves her very much, frequently visiting her in jail.
Pearl is very sweet and innocent, as well as a bit naive, but she's also extraordinarily stubborn. She will always do what she thinks is the right thing, unless someone she really respects (like Maya or Phoenix) tells her not to. And even then, she takes some convincing. She takes great pride in her ability as a spirit medium, even though she wouldn't normally admit it. It gives her a sense of accomplishment when she helps people with it, and upsets her when she can't manage to do it.
APPEARANCE:
Pearl is very small and compact, and usually keeps her brown hair up in two loops on her head. She usually wears her medium robes, which is basically a pale dress and a purple jacket over it with a sash tied around her middle.
