And FINALLY I get around to posting the next three drabbles from my drabble series 'Possibilities'. Finally. After, like, a month. Or something equally ridiculous.
First off: apologies to all those who wanted some ficlets related to the drabbles. Railway's ficlet-sequel is written (Another Man Died Today), but the others aren't. They will be though, and will likely be my project for writing during the school year. So yes, all the drabbles from the first batch will get ficlet sequels. Some time, some day. And I have to go back and re-read the comments to figure out which ones were requested from the second batch. As for this batch... yes, I will take requests, but be warned: they will take a lengthy amount of time in coming (blame the Muses if you will...).
So. Down to business.

1783 AD - Loyalty
_______
Because he is the closest bachelor Jack takes in one of the Loyalist refugees from the newly named United States of America. That first evening is passed listening to a litany of complaints coming out from under a stiff upper lip. He says nothing aloud then, but privately is in agreement with the rebels. He should leave for the States. There isn't anything for him here.
As it turns out, he's wrong. Luck always changes and now there is something (someone) for him here. Someone who begs wantonly beneath him. Someone who won't be returning to that rebel colony, America.
1876 AD - Mounties
_______
Jack chuckles the first time he sees the red uniforms and howls with laughter at the sight of their pitiful survival skills. The laughter only stops when these 'Mounted Police' capture him. He's far nearer to growling as their leader mocks his hat.
He escapes two nights after the capture, taking their leader with him. "It's high time the man met some of the local dignitaries," is the excuse. Oh aye, and Jack making a truly mounted policeman of him. The poor Brit won't know what hit him. Jack chuckles again and wonders who will be growling now, and why.
1917 AD - Explosion
_______
Jack and Will are both nervous as they peer around the blackened doorframe. They both wait for the inevitable shriek to get back. It never comes and the boys creep forward to study the inhabitant of the nearest cot.
He is about Jack's age, deathly pale, with a bandage wrapped around his head. The remnant of a Navy uniform straggles across his arm, and Jack pokes at it, curious. An eyelid twitches and the green eye and crisp, accented voice startles both boys into jumping back, in perfect unison. One wouldn't know they had only met on December the 6th.
Author's Notes: Yes, I am still being historically accurate in making James a "brit" in 'Mounties'. The first commanding officer of the North-West Mounted Police (now the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) was British, and if I am incorrect, many of the officers still had British backgrounds, roots, etc. As for who or what Jack is... up to you. xD
'Explosion' is having to do with the Halifax Explosion in WWI. I don't know how much anyone else knows about it, but too sum it up it was the largest man-made explosion before the atomic bomb. They even studied when creating the A-Bomb. It happened at 8:00 AM on Dec. 6th, and absolutely devastated the city. The blizzard that came almost immediately afterwards didn't help any either. (In fact 1917/18 was a horrble year- the Spanish Influenza hit as well.)
