Reporters (at least in North America) traditionally are assigned 'beats', or particular coverage areas - the crime beat, the city hall beat, the movie beat, whatever.

Pig, being Pig, is interpreting 'what beat do you want' literally, in the musical sense. Thus Rat, being Rat, wants to give him a beating. Pretty simple, really.

Ah, OK. Somehow my eyes glanced over the word "beat" in the strip. All I saw was Rat asking him what he wanted to do. Then I read the strip a couple more times, and somehow still missed it. Thanks.
