oh yes, i went there. alright, kids, brace yourself for another gushfest about a band everybody else has probably already finished gushing over from the d.
so tonight i went to see Andrew Bird at the suggestion of Peter Dan--whose musical taste has only failed me once. (psa: do not see Camper Van Beethoven). the show was at the Fine Line and Haley Bonar opened. some people will probly be pissed about this part, but i didn't find her to be all that impressive. she sang pretty, but her lyrics were boring and girly and she made me sleepy. by the time Andrew Bird came on, my feet hurt and i was nigh in a coma. all that ended, though, when he opened his pretty mouth.
actually, he didn't even have to open his mouth. for the first song, he mostly just whistled. exactly like a goddamn bird. effortlessly and with range. he sang in the exact same way. he played the violin in a fashion which can only be described as glorious. i was completely absorbed in watching his body move with the bow, the horse hairs shredding and peeling away from its tips. if i knew music terms, i would describe that better. all i can say is it was glorious. did i mention that he could sing and play the violin at the same time? well, he could. oh, and he also played guitar and wrote wicked awesome lyrics. and i suppose that pretty always helps:
i couldn't take my eyes off the man..
the other guy in the band was cool too. the guy behind me described him to the real short lady next to him (who couldn't see) as "a small version of Sean Penn." her response was, "I didn't know that guy came any smaller."
anyway, Andrew Bird comes with a 5 star rating from the d.
