today was a day of splurges that i didn't have to pay for. and it was sale stuff anyways.
i love barnes and noble. actually, i love just about any bookstore. i got myself an asian cookbook with pictures to go along with every single recipe (makes deciding on the food so much easier), an indian cookbook with my family's favorite dishes from india palace in it, though it'll probably be nowhere near as good, but we have an entire pantry devoted to spices to take care of that. and then i got myself a fruit smoothie recipe book. some of the stuff in there looks positively divine, like the passion fruit & banana & pineapple smoothie. so after splurging on those - and by splurge, i mean they were like $8 each and i didn't even use up half my gift card buying power - i went to papyrus, this spiffy little card store next door to b&n, and checked out which cards i like so i can make my own. and with my access to shimmery silver card paper at carlson's (i really should get the little artist discount thing they have, since i go there soooo often) i can nearly duplicate the pretty red and silver one with very little effort. i might do a variation on that based on my little green picture in the book i'm making for nick. and this time around, i swear i'm crazy, because i'm making two of the calligraphy books. two. seriously, jason's was no less than 30 hours of work, picking out inks and bible verses and quotes and colors/scripts/borders for everything, so you'd think i'd learn my lesson, but no, i'm only going to put myself through more pain by making a second one. i really doubt any of them will be quite as good as jason's as far as the verses chosen and the order they were placed in, but hours of practice have been honing my calligraphy skills so i can change the chosen script without having to write out another rough copy of the text. and i broke out my silver ink for the first time in a long time. now i have to work with the pearlescents (teal and lavendar are my two colors) so i don't fear using them.
should i hold a new year's party? probably not, since the only tvs we have in the house are kinda small, and we don't have cable or satellite. we've got an antenna. and that's the way it should be, not all this golf channel and sci-fi channel stuff. well, i wouldn't object to the cooking/food channel, or whatever it is. of course, i do enough scratch cooking that i don't need a show to tell me what i should do. by the time i create something good, i've found about five recipes i should avoid like the plague.
oo, there's a green tea smoothie with ginger and mango and peaches.
and i think i'll spend the rest of my evening deciding which smoothie to make for breakfast tomorrow. some of these look really good.
