The Mediterranian

France was a new trip. I could easily see myself settling down in the south of France while opening up a cafe on a waterfront somewhere. Of course I'm a loud, brash American - and this is obvious. And I don't really speak the language yet. And I really don't know the first thing about cafes or what the French like to eat. But it looks like it could be a good life in some ways.

If I can't make it there, at least there's Rhodes. Somewhat of a tourist trap, nevertheless it has a laid back attitude, more people speak English (or don't pretend not to) and they have tons of beaches on the Med - some of the bluest water I've ever seen. These beaches were just amazing. There's an old city that was built in the 13th century (some parts far earlier). Considering this is far before Europeans crossed the pond and started colonizing America it definetly had a feeling of age. A feeling I never got at home. That, and being a tourist destination means there were people from just about everywhere.

That little trip being done, its back to grey walls and routines to pass the time (eat sleep pt read movies games). Not much of a routine, but memories provide the right spice to live with it.

Incidentally, I found out how sweet salt can be. The ship ran out a few weeks back. I also sweat a lot from pt (running especially), the ships deck and the hotter places onboard. This meant I poured out a lot of sodium with little being replaced. When we got restocked and I salted my food again, it was like I poured sugar on instead. Its not something I think I'd have realized if it wasn't lacking.
