Im in Palenque now. The bus ride was about 13 and a half hours with no sleep. Worse bus driver ever! I felt like the road was swaying from side to side half the time and the other he would speed up to the speed bump and then slam on the brakes right before it and go over reealy slowly. We also got hit by another bus. Not bad at all but our mirror broke the window of the other bus. The worst part was the two buses stopped in the middle of the rode and didnt let any traffic past.

After arriving we found our way to a little village in el Panchan and are staying in this really cute room with colorful walls and surrounded by the loudest chirping I have ever heard. There is a little creek right outside the window and huge leafy plants all around that remind me that Im in the jungle. There was a crew of army ants last night going accross the path that we had to step over every time we passed. Hard workers they are.

We got our room and immediately took off on a tour of two waterfalls. Amanda, the canadian girl Im with, has the best luck ever and we got the van that was going to leave in 5 minutes. The rode was incredibly windy and I wanted to vomit a bunch but we found our way to a huge waterfall with a beautiful pool at the bottom that I jumped right into. The water was cool but not cold like it is in Oregon. We swam around a bit and then went to the other side where there was green moss with little white creeks making there way down into the pool. We walked around in the rocks and little pools a bit and then Amanda saw someone dive off the rocks that were right under the waterfall (about 150 feet high) and of course I knew thats what we were about to do. Once I climbed up onto the rocks I couldnt see anymore because of the force of the water. She dove off and made it look so easy that I thought, sure what the hell.. As I was standing under the water completely the only thing I could think was, If I die right now I will be happy. The force of the water made me realise how amazing the earth is and how I just want to see more of it. It was truly an experience.

As we drove to the next waterfall everyone fell asleep and me in the most uncomfortable chair. When we got to the next place the locals pushed food through our windows and even hit me on the shoulder trying to get us to buy things. Once we got into the main part there were kids and adults everwhere with bowls on their heads selling random food things. The path walking up the waterfall was full with restaurants and shops and reminded me a lot of the country faire. The waterfall wasnt as nice as the first one mostly just because it was so huge. I mean fuckin huge! The water was quite a bit cooler and we were so tired that we just layed out our blankets and took a nap in the sun. Just as we were about to leave we saw some people from our group and they told us about a rope swing at the top so we climbed up and found it. It was so much fun to swing and just fall into the water. Exhilerating. We dove a bit and then walked all the way back down.

Dinner was fun, but not like it was at Pocna on Isla Mujeres. It was a big restaurant outside called Don Muchachos. Because it was a restaurant you couldnt just sit down and start talking to anyone. The food was really good, a bit too much garlic and feta though. I had pesto tortellini and salad and garlic bread. One thing about Mexico that Ive learned is that the food never comes out together. I got my tortellini before anyone else and then I got my salad and bread. After five minutes or so everyone else got there bread. Also you have to ask for the ticket, they wont give it to you unless you ask. I really like it because it leaves the option of just hanging out as long as you want.

Finally it was too much for me to take so after the band, which reminded me of the faire and of Dad, and the fire dancing (fucking incredible) I went to bed and slept like a baby.

Today we went to the Ruins and they werent all that interesting other than the fact that theyre really old. I did find one spot that was neat to walk down into pitch blackness, but other than that it was just hot and big.

Ok, so that was a lot in a few days. Now we will have dinner (pizza) and I want to go to bed, but you never know...

Tomorrow we are off to San Cristobal and stay there for a few days.
