I'm trying to imagine a future where the Green Party matters in a two party system of govt.
Nope. A pity.
They do have some good ideas, which at the local level would help with quality of life. If they're willing to remember that overall improvements are the goal rather than extreme disagreements resulting on continual splitting and infighting (witnessed that at the local level, often), they would matter. It would really be helpful if they could make that part of their platform: improving living conditions, economically and efficiently. They are unlikely to become a replacement for the Democrats or Republicans as both of those are well funded Fascist organizations out to enslave the rest of us and have been succeeding for the last century. The Green party gets painted as a more extreme socialist/communist version of the Democrats so instantly loses and real support by Republicans and Conservatives (not the same thing), despite having wildlife conservation in common with Conservatives (many hunt, thus funding wildlife management programs that have restored elk and wild turkey and bison from the brink of extinction). To imagine a Green Party that funds the Boy Scouts of America (a Conservative conservation group) and works out ways to make Recycling pay someone besides the Mafia (Waste Management) and come out in favor of electric streetcars and deregulating vehicle safety so that ultralight cars and diesels can cut fuel consumption. Can the Greens stand up to the EPA and be pro-business and pro-employment? It would really screw with pre-conceptions and improve their reputation. Its the hardliners and splitters that keep wrecking things for them. The ready anger and divisiveness that kills any potential viability of them as worth making deals with in the real world. They are going to need some credibility with real voters if they want power and support.
