Yesterday the Irish people voted YES to the Lisbon treaty despite a toxic alliance of far-left and far-right. Despite gleeful foreigners projecting their own eurosceptic fantasies onto our politics. Despite a hated and incompetent government. Despite the fact that the treaty itself is bloody long and difficult to understand with plenty of scope for the deliberate spreading of confusion and fear.

Thank God, that's over! And now for the limerick:

Rupert Murdoch is all in a rage,
With his lies and his hate, we refused to engage,
Two Thirds of the Vote
Threw him out of the boat
And we told him to get off our stage
