[ The device is propped up against a building and high enough to provide a view of Kyoraku Shunsui sitting on ledge a few feet away. Isn't it lovely that arriving in a strange new world isn't enough to wipe the smile off of this man's face. Still it's sad that his lieutenant isn't around to help make his introduction even better. ]This place is a

Shunsui is back.
Ukitake is unspeakably happy by this, even if it means he's terribly selfish at the same time, and can't help but smile. He's missed his friend something awful.]
Kyouraku. Your ideas of comfort are severely lacking.

Shhhh. It's all part of my plan to make friends.
[ And he can't help but grin widely after a few seconds. ]
I had a feeling you were in the neighborhood. [ Wink. ] I'll start making my way over to where you are Ukitake. This concrete ledge is starting to make my backside sore. [ How can he sound so damn cheerful? ]

[However, he scratches the back of his neck, a little nervously.]
Ah, be careful, Kyouraku. There's an event in play - I'll explain later - that's causing people to switch bodies if they get too close. But if you insist on seeking me out, which I know you will anyway, I am currently at [x, y].

Shunsui follows the directions and is there in a flash, because he's fast like that.
For the second time Shunsui raises a concerned eyebrow. Permanent fixture makes more sense. ]
Been here long?
Reply
But I've been here for two and a half years, now.
[Feeling Shunsui's reiatsu outside the house, Ukitake rushes toward the door.
But he stalls to open it, not wanting to force anything onto his friend's shoulders after he's just arrived. Still, he opens the door a little bit, poking his head out.]
...Are you still you and I'm still me?

Shunsui strokes his chin, feeling the familiar roughness of his stubble and leans forward. ]
Looks like we're safe for now. [ And he leans back. ] But you can't tell me you haven't thought about it before, can you, Ukitake? I have.

Thought about what? Switching our bodies?
[WHY WOULD YOU WANT HIS, SHUNSUI?]
Reply
[ The real question is, would you want Shunsui wearing your face, Ukitake. He could kill a reputation. He could also help one though. ]
I'd let all the beautiful women run their fingers through your hair. [ Like there's anything stopping him in his own body, other than the fleeing of course. ]

That's not fair, Kyouraku, then I wouldn't be able to enjoy it for myself. Still, I wouldn't want you suffering, so it's better that we are who we are.
[A moment later, he pushes himself from the door, throws caution to the wind and wraps his arms around Shunsui's waist in a hug.]
...I still have to explain everything to you.

You say that like this is the worst place in the universe to end up. [ He pulls away, keeping one of his hands on Ukitake's shoulder. ] It can't be all bad if you're here.

Adstringendum is actually pretty horrible. We show up here against our will, have no definite way of returning, and are at the whims of spirits, for lack of a better word, who aren't exactly kind to us. This event is courtesy of them.
[As soon as he's finished speaking, he feels a cough coming on and turns away to cough into his hand for a few moments. Once the fit has passed, he quickly glances at his hand, happy to see no blood speckled there.]
I think that's a sign I need to make tea.

It doesn't seem like this event's been very good to you. [ When he considers the way he answered the door especially. Shunsui places a supportive hand on Ukitake's back looking both upset and worried. This is far from the first time he's seen his friend suffer from a coughing fit, and they never get any easier to witness. ]
Tea sounds like a fine idea. I'll help you. [ There's no telling how many people have been in Ukitake's body, and it just doesn't seem like that kind of activity would be good for his health. ]

[It could always be worse.]
People just don't know how to breathe with my lungs and they shouldn't have to. It's a small annoyance, though, but an annoyance, nonetheless. Luckily I've been right there in order to coach them through the first moments of the switch before they panic too much.
[He walks in the kitchen and grabs the tea kettle, filling it with water, before pointing at different cupboards to give Shunsui something to do.]
The mugs are up there and the teabags are there. I apologize for not having anything nicer, but we live off the bare necessities.
Reply
[ Reaching into the cupboard, he can't help but shake his head and laugh a big, giving his best friend a slightly incredulous look. ] I hope this is the last time you apologize for something like that.
[ He sets the mugs and teabags down on the counter. ] I took a stroll around this place. I'm sure it won't be easy, but I'll manage. [ And he sighs a sad sort of sigh. ] But I wonder how long I'll be able to last without my sweet, adorable Nanao. [ He means that, but it is so dramatic about someone who didn't know him might think he is making it up. ]

I'm still in one piece.
[He then crosses his arms over his chest.]
And I will apologize as much as I see fit, considering as a host I am to give my guest the best they deserve.
[So suck on that, Shunsui. However, at mention of Nanao, he softens the act and pats Shunsui on the arm, sympathetically.]
Before you know it, you'll find some other pretty thing to lavish in attentions.

This isn't the kind of place for her anyway. [ And there have been pretty young things. ]
What about you? You've been here for a while, have you met anyone special? [ He wiggles his eyebrows. ]
