Nostalgic for James P. Hogan

There seems to be far too much death and sadness in the world. Shortages of raw materials and necessities are virtually artificial, and yet we are unable to transition from a system of competition to a system of cooperation. The recent bombings in London are really disturbing to me. Especially since the public at large cannot seem to comprehend the cause-and-effect cycle of exploitation that comprises our foreign policy.

I was reminiscing, with Zeke recently about all the utopian science fiction we read as kids and how far away our society is from those promised futures of yester-year. The reality of nuclear power, gene therapy and computer technology surrounds us, and yet, all the expected cures and solutions they were meant to provide prove elusive. Why is this? Why is our culture so cynical?

I really wish collectivism could work but I have no idea how to make it happen or play a real part. It seems to be just "common sense" that any alternative to capitalism "just won't work." Most people really do believe whatever propaganda they are raised on, I guess.
