I got my paper on Russian and Byzantine Iconography back today. I'm still reading up on the subject though. I find it interesting the number of apocryphal sources early religious art drew from. The origins of Iconography are surprisingly vague as well. The academic study of Icons is a relatively fresh field for art history -- Surprising no?
Speaking of art, Sister Wendy has a speech impediment. I know this because I borrowed one of her documentaries from the public library. A nun with a speech impediment is just about the oddest narrator you could expect. What is interesting is her surprising emphasis on secular and humanistic art. Throughout the show I kept thinking and then blurting out incredulously, "...But isn't she a nun?"
