One shitty week

I hurt my back.  At first it was just this pain across my lower back.  It didn't seem too bad and I was sure it would go away.  Then it turned into a shooting pain down my left leg that I learned from WebMD was probably due to the pinching of my sciatic nerve.  Further investigation on WebMD revealed that the pain should go away in a matter of "weeks or months" - great.  Anyway, it's already getting better with lots of stretching and heat pads.  But boy am I feeling old and broken.

To make matters worse, I got a nasty cold.  How could I not with half of the office sneezing and sniffling?  Oh how I hate buildings with windows you can't open.  Makes me feel like I'm on a plane and breathing recycled air.  Everything kept in.  Everything stale and germs festering.  I'm sure it can't be so bad but it does nothing for my psychology of not getting sick.  How am I to "think healthy" visualizing all that?  Anyway, I felt it creep up on me on Wednesday and it got worse on Thursday until I had to take Friday off so I could drown myself in the blissful stupor of Nyquil induced sleep.  Yet even with all the drugs, I am unable to have completely satisfying sleep because I am only able to sleep on my right side due to the gimpy back/leg pain.  So when in my sleep, I would turn onto my back, I would feel pain and wake up to remember to turn back onto my side.  Oh and it gets better...

After so many hours wrestling with myself in bed, the ginormous cyst on my back is starting to feel tender.  For those of you who are new to the show, this cyst did not exist until a few years back where it got huge then infected then deflated when I went to the dermatologist and she gave me a steroid shot to calm it down.  So the infection sucked and was painful but I was glad it went away with the shot.  Well, now it's back and bigger than ever.  I have been to two dermatologists and asked if it should be removed only to be assured that it's just a kelloid cyst and that it won't bother me.  Well, it's right on my spine so I feel it anytime I lean against anything, or do sit ups, or just lay flat so I think they're wrong about it not bothering me.  Looking around online has suggested that having it surgically removed will not guarantee that it won't grow back so I didn't want to bother.  So I figured, as long as it doesn't get infected again, I'll deal with it.  Well, now it's starting to feel tender, much like it did before it got infected all those years back.  Great...  So what, I just keep getting the steroid injections to flatten it?  Oh and by the way, it looks gross.  Sigh.  I hate going to the doctor.

So that's my shitty week in nutshell.  Hope this is not indicative of what this year will be like.  Don't want to spend it worrying about my health and going to the doctor all the time.  Especially since the insurance plan I chose was based on me NOT going to the doctor very much.  Stupid stupid stupid.  Stay tuned.
