Password Security Tips

I know tech stuff fairly well, so I figured it would be a good idea to impart some wisdom to those who may be worried about password security.

First off, here's a link. Most of what I say is here: http://www.securitystats.com/tools/password.php

Second, some tips for personal passwords:
  • Don't give other people your password. Period. Give temporary mod privileges or, if there's absolutely no other way, change the password before you give it to a person and change it back after a previously specified amount of time. Check your security questions and make sure your password-recovery email hasn't been changed. It's not about trust, it's about security. You shouldn't leave your house unlocked just because you trust your neighbours.
  • Do change your password every few months. If someone figures it out, this should put a stop to unauthorized access.
  • Don't email your password, even to yourself. If you have to keep track of your password, make it memorable: "I love chocolate! I hate asparagus" can translate into "i<3ch!Ih8a" for a killer password that has meaning to no one but you.
  • Do pick a secure password Don't use real words. Instead, mash together sentences like our trusty "I love chocolate! I hate asparagus".

It should be noted that work-related passwords should be made more secure (read the link for more details) but this should do for passwords that you need to keep safe from e-people.
