I just got back from the most amazing two weeks of my life.
I went down to Nawlins on March 26th knowing absolutely nothing about what I'd be dowing down there. I got back yesterday. I knew I'd be working for Enterprise, but I didn't know exactly what to expect. I didn't know if it was going to be working out of a tent with no power, or if it would be working in an actual branch.
I flew in with 3 other people from the Boston Area. Darragh from the Cape... he works at the airport down there...good kid, didn't hang out with him past the first Monday...Brendan was cool, didn't hang out with him a ton, but he was freaking hillarious! And Vanessa. I've known her for years...we went to college together.
We all went to dinner when we first got there. We met this man who told us about his story (from Katrina) he was pretty optomistic considering everything he told us. He didn't want us to feel bad for him, he wanted us to just realize what we needed to see and everything. After dinner, we took a ride through Lakeview. This area had beautiful homes, but you could see all of the damage from the storms. There were homes that were non existing. There were areas where there used to be houses, but they were now miles from where they should have been...maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, I'll get back to that towards the end of the two weeks...
Monday, we had to be at admin for 7:30. We met Dave Zimmerman who is the RVP in group 14. We met all of the area managers and had a little powwow. The area managers were telling us about their branches etc. This guy named Jake said his branch was high dealership and that's what I love, so I raised my hand for that one. After the meeting, I went there...OMG...the people who work in the branch were so funny! I'll get to more of that later...the first day was a little awkward. I'm not going to lie, who wants to be the outsider not knowing anything about anyone? Not me, but omg it was so great. Jake, Guy, Vanessa, and I went to lunch. This was so awkward...I'm not an out to eat kind of girl, and I don't love seafood. ugh...it was strange, we felt like they asked us questions and then didn't want to hear the answer...
After that, we went back to the branch...wow my feet have never hurt so badly! We worked till about 7:30 then went to Laggers with the other Storm Troopers...that's what they called us, got a little drunk, had fun the end ;)
Tuesday, I was a little hung over...went to work, hit a durando w/an F150 (whoops) not a lot of damage, just the tire...Jose checked it out said it was fine. Talked to Guy a ton. He taught me how to do some things that I really want to bring back to my branch. Went home after work *well to the hotel* didn't go out that night, watched American Idol and went to bed.
Wednesday...Worked, fell in love with everyone in my branch...went to Happy Hour after...followed Guy there (it was on this street called Magazine) We went to the Balcony. OMG...it was so much fun...and I got to bond a lot with him, he's by far my favorite at this point of the week :)
Thursday...worked, not really sure what I did that night, maybe we went to the Cheesecake Bistro for dinner?
Friday, worked, then went Bowling with some of the 1407 crew. Met Eddie... hillarious! HOT...hooks up w/way too many storm troopers...realized that Jake is so cool when he's drinking ;) Enjoyed my time with all of them. Delaney is awesome, her boyfriend treats her so well, Jose is cool when you're not working for him...made a bet with Eddie about the Mechanical Bull...see Saturday
Saturday, worked, went to the mall...so crowded, ugh...I don't want to relive that...took a nap, went out on Burborn...don't remember all of it, but had an awesome time :) Dana, Sharron, V, Married Matt, and myself went down in the same cab. Met up w/Matt who talks with his hands (hot) Drank a hurricane, hand grenade, shots, and cherry bombs...rode the mechanical bull at Urban Cowboy, sadly didn't run into Eddie, but I wanted to do it SOOO badly, I couldn't wait...he got stuck somewhere anyway. Ran into Derek, my branch manager... proceeded to talk about his ass the entire time (yikes) this man is beautiful...and such a nice kid...ended up leaving the French Quarter and went to get a burger w/Married Matt...at the tick tock cafe, after driving around for like an hour hahah! Advice from Burborn...don't walk around barefoot...even if your shoes are killing your feet...not a wise idea (whoops glass)
Sunday, slept in, went to look for a Pull Boy b/c Arris wouldn't stop asking about them, the Po Boy shop was closed, so we tried Caines for lunch...went our own ways after that, then ended up going down to Burborn to do some shopping w/Vanessa later that night...drove through some of the flooded areas, saw the water lines, holy shit! But it got much worse!
Monday...what did I do on Monday? Worked, I know I got a tetnus shot at lunch, not sure what I did at night, maybe got some dinner b/c it was the longest day in history? Cheesecake Bistro is sounding right (so yummy!)
The rest of the week is such a blur...but I did go out on Wed for Guys' Birthday :) I seriously love this kid to death...we definately bonded!
Thursday, we went tou Lunch w/Dave, Jake, some other area managers and other storm troopes. Jake took us to the 9th ward, and chalmette...such a sad sad afternoon. Houses that once were, were no longer, and who knows where they ended up. Open land when houses were covering every piece of land that he showed us. He showed us where the levees broke, there was a house on a telephone pole...no joke, if this pole wasn't here, the house would have been washed away too. I saw cars on fenses, it's amazing how powerful water can be. I can't imagine being there. I took a lot of pictures, but I felt very disrespectful. I ended up buying 2 books with captions and some quotes from people. If anyone wants to read it they can.
I didn't go out Thursday night, I was drained.
Friday, worked, went to lunch w/Guy :) after work drank a bunch with the guys, then went to dinner w/Married Matt...packed a little...nothing too wild
Saturday, woke up, packed the rest of my shit...went to Barnes and Noble, then left to fly home :(
