Well, I missed "College Transition Night" because I forgot to RSVP.

If I was there, or better, if I could give advice to myself a year ago, this is what I would have said.

Expect to be in the middle of the curve. You will not get straight A's, and you will survive.

Wear jeans at least twice a week. You cannot tell when if you gain weight if you wear yoga pants and gym shorts all the time.

Try to get to the gym. Seriously, try.

End that long-distance relationship before it begins and makes you miserable for all of first semester.

Get involved. Quickly. Put yourself out there, and you will be rewarded in the simplest ways, like having someone you know say a passing "Hi" to you on campus.

Communicate with your roommate frequently.

Sometimes, your time is better spent enjoying the company of your friends rather than studying. Within reason.

Things happen much faster in college. It's like life in hyper-speed.

Open up, and don't be afraid to share how much of a nerd you are in the first few weeks of school. You will be surrounded by the best kinds of nerds.

Appreciate every moment, even the miserable ones, because it will be over before you know it.
