The conversation with Joel was put on the back burner for what Jacob considered to be a more important situation: His sandwich.

It's not that he wasn't listening to Joel -- he was, but it just didn't really... look like it. It's sort of like talking to someone who working on their car, or building one of those little ships in the big glass bottles, except this person was eating a turkey sandwich.

"Huh? -- Oh, yeah." He replied before taking another bite out of the sandwich. "Yeah, yeah I know what you--" he pauses for a moment to chew (it almost fell out of his mouth) but continues quickly after swallowing "--mean."

Actually. Not that he had taken a minute to soak with Joel has said... well, Jacob realized that he really did know how he felt.

"Yeah... aha. I guess for me I doubt it, but, eh."

Because here he wasn't, you know, a failure.

He quickly added, "--I don't miss it, though" because, well. He didn't. Sure he didn't mind the place as much as some, but hell, he was glad to be out of there.

"I miss my friends sometimes, but I think it's better here -- maybe? I dunno. I guess I was really happy to be outta there the first time, when I was younger, but I'm still happy to be outta there -- I dunno."

Pause.

"Yeah, nah. My answers are bad at this, really. Are you homesick?"

"Heh, I--" Joel peered up only to be greeted by Jake's bad manners. Normally he would have been all over how disgusting Jacob looked pounding that sandwich into his mouth, but.

It still earned a brief horrified expression.

A small shrug his response, Joel hid his hands in his pockets, no longer feeling hungry enough to eat. Shaking his head in defeat, he left out an awkward laugh. "I guess I am, huh. I don't really got any friends to miss, though. Never was the popular guy, right? It's not so much even where I lived, since that was crap. I guess it's just --"

He shrugged again, more from nerves than anything else. "Just a special person. Home is where the heart is or whatever, y'know?"
