On my front porch looking in

So, I'm back on the west coast. (Almost typed "coats" there ... well, I did, but I caught myself.) And I must say, I'm really enjoying being home. Well, I hadn't been, until today. Dad's been nagging at me to get my eye and dentist appointments made, 'cause I won't have insurance after September 19th. So he's been nagging me and nagging me to get that done, and I finally did today. But I've decided to switch dentists. Honestly, I hate going to Dr. Giswold. Everyone there seems really fake (in a nice way, of course) and condescending towards you, and I'm just sick and tired of going there and feeling like I've done something wrong. So I've decided to go to Dr. Prael, who's about a block away from the studio. I've heard good things about him, so I'm not dreading my appointment, which is set for September 12th. And I was able to snag an eye appointment for this Monday, 'cause somebody canceled theirs. So that's good. That takes care of the important stuff. And now Dad can't nag me anymore. At least, about doctor appointments. Yay!

In other news, I spent all of yesterday hanging out over town with Chris. That was fun. We stopped by Dad's house to pick up a few things that I'd left there, and chatted with my dad for a bit about his latest boat that he's building (a really nice-looking kayak ... not that they're not all nice-looking or anything). Then we were off to have Chinese food at this restaurant that my dad and I go to in Mountlake Terrace, every once in a while. The food was good and was really well-priced (I'd never had lunch there before, so I wasn't sure), and Chris got to laugh at my inability to use chopsticks. Well, I can use them. Just not the way you're supposed to. And compared to his skills (which, I must mention, he'd had 20 years to learn), I look freakin' ridiculous. But whatever. Got the food into my mouth, at least. Yum.

Hung out down in Edmonds, for a while. Mostly just sat on logs and watched the tide come in. Then lazed around on the grass, soaking up the sun. Well, through my jeans. All-in-all, it was a relaxing, content sort of day. Well, until I was driving back to Mukilteo and got stuck in traffic, 'cause a stoplight appeared to be malfunctioning, making it a four-way stop. Yeah, that was annoying. But ehh, got the 8:00 boat home, so it's all good.

Today has been pretty eventful, so far. I dropped Lily off at the pet store to be groomed, then went into Langley to see everyone and make my appointments, then met up with Julie so she could take me to lunch at the Useless Bay Golf Course. Mmm, had a nice, yummy burger. I won't even begin to consider how many calories were in that. Heh. Anyway, we got to chat for a while, which was fun. Then picked up Lily (she's all fluffy and soft, now) and went home (after a quick stop in Langley to show her off to everybody).

Here comes the fun, though. Julie left to go back to her house, and I'd assumed she was halfway back, when she knocked on our door. And of course I berated her for actually knocking on our door, because everybody knows to just walk right in. Anyway. She broke the news that she'd gotten her car stuck on a rock at the bottom of our driveway. I didn't think it was very serious, until I saw what she'd done. Heh. Heh heh. She really got her car stuck. The rock was actually holding the car up, so the left front tire was completely off the ground and would spin when she tried to drive, 'cause her car has front-wheel steering. So after I finished laughing (much to Julie's dismay), we figured out that if we could find a car jack, we could jack up the car enough to roll the rock (which was more like a small boulder) out from beneath the car. Ten minutes later, we had Carl (our neighbor) over with his car jack and he was able to jack the car up and get the rock out. Of course, after a bit more laughing, when we realized that Julie never sets her emergency brake and the car started rolling while Carl was half underneath it. Heh, oops. Luckily, no damage was done to the car -- otherwise, I wouldn't find this so amusing. But as it was, everything's okay, and I found the whole situation funny as hell -- and still do.

Heh, anyway, that's been my day. Pretty busy and enjoying every minute of it. And tonight, Julie's picking me up to spend the night at her house, so we can leave bright and early for the San Juans. Looking forward to the trip. Not looking forward to waking up at 5:00 AM. But whatev. I'll survive.
