Tattoos

I think we all understand the sentiment "Life Goes On," regardless of our location on the globe. This photo was taken during a huge Easter parade in Ramallah, Palestine. How do you feel about tattoos? Do you have any? I have two. One is a peace sign on my left shoulder and the other is the yin/yang symbol surrounded by a sun, which is located on my lower back. In America, we call tattoos in this location "tramp stamps." :) Obviously I'm not judgmental of people with tattoos, but I think it's a poor decision to get inked in highly visible places like your arms, neck, or foot because it can have a detrimental impact on professional development, etc. For instance, in most schools in America, teachers with a lot of arm tattoos are required to wear long sleeves and some restaurants even require waiters to cover visible tattoos. My cousin works at I.H.O.P (International House of Pancakes), a completely middle-class, inexpensive restaurant, and he has to wear arm bands to cover his ink.

How common are tattoos in Russia? In America, they are very popular with both genders. A 2013 study indicates that 40% of Americans in the age range of 26 - 40 have at least one tattoo. I wonder if tattoos are also negatively viewed in the Russian workforce?

Pleasant weekend to all!

america, russia, who am i?
