Do you live there? I know they have a great scenic train ride you can take, and I love the railways!

I live in New Zealand (originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia). Visited Colorado a few years back and loved Durango. You are right: that train ride is great.

Great, thanks! I've not yet traveled to New Zealand, only Australia. It's so far away, but I guess I'll make it there someday. :)

Like I said, if you start from Durango, you can take the train to Silverton -- or drive over Molas Divide (spectacular!) and then continue from Silverton over Red Mtn Pass to Ouray.
Oh, just remembered: The Black Canyon of Gunnison. I think it's also close to Durango.

All of these places look beautiful, I googled them! :) Btw, did you experience any discomfort or breathing problems due to the high altitude during your visit?

I did, to some degree. But I was on the bike. If you don't do anything strenuous you probably wouldn't even notice it. But try to hike up a slope, and you'll find yourself out of breath much sooner than at sea level.
Telluride is the town where Anatoli Boukreev lived for a while (a season? I don't remember). Funny that his diaries ('Above the clouds' ??) have been published in English only, not in the original Russian.
