My dear readers, sorry I've been so lazy writing my travel reports. They are extremely backlogged, but will return next week. In general, I've recently been lacking motivation in most areas of life. Overall, a sense of malaise and slightly depressive state. I guess it will soon pass, as it always does. How do you snap out of these life phases?
I've also been totally consumed with the cable television program HOMELAND, now in its fourth season. I'm late to the party, as the show has received a lot of awards and praise for the past few years. The series follows a mentally-imbalanced CIA Agent, Carrie Mathison, in her quest to chase terrorists around the world and keep her job, despite the fact that she has psychiatric issues. Very good writing, acting and plot twists on the show. I'm almost done with the third season, and will soon be caught up. In America, almost all television dramas revolve around political/inter-government dynamics, medical students/doctors, and lawyers/the legal world. HOMELAND is suspenseful and intriguing because you see how the core U.S. agencies - the White House, State Department, CIA and the FBI constantly battle with each other on objectives and implementation of national security plans. Of course, it's just for entertainment but I believe the themes closely mirror the inter-dynamics of American government agencies in real life.
I highly recommend viewing if you're looking for a new program to watch. You must pay close attention to each episode, and it's necessary to start from the first season of the series Otherwise, you will be completely lost as each episode builds on the other. The current season is set in Kabul, thus all of the black burqas in the cover photo. Remember I once wore one of these garments, and briefly wrote about the experience
here. The picture below - yep it's me, wearing a burqa in the Virginia forest. Feeling like a floating ghost...
Which American television shows do you watch? Have a nice weekend!
