Killing 2006/City of Dead Angels: A compilation

I guess I'll get the inevitable out of the way since it's V-Day. So to quote the wisdom of one Philip Fry: "It's Valentine's Day? Crap! I forgot to get a girlfriend, again." Or in the immortal words of Dan Andriano: "Happy Valentine's Day. I hope the sun's out in New York. I hope he bought you roses. I hope he bought you roses."

I've decided to mark the occasion by clumsily and awkwardly beginning the writing of my novel and hitting up that new coffee shop in Lombard (it's pretty good, pretty empty because of the weather). Compelling stuff. I'm proud to say that I won the battle against myself not to be silly and have a bitter anti-Valentine's Day celebration or ask a girl out. I accidentally did the anti-Valentine's Day thing by listening to Reign in Blood today, but I plead "not guilty" because it was already in my CD player yesterday. And yeah, I'm probably going to give in and watch the "Love and rocket" episode of Futurama . My Mexican friends at work told me that they grew up seeing V-Day as a holiday for friends and family rather than sig. others- I think they have their shit down- "Happy homey day" as one of them called it.

Anyway, I think that's all that really needs to be said about V-Day- too many wasted words already. This entry is really meant to be a couple vignettes that I've been meaning to write for quite a while. One is about not_on_fire (and Ryan's) New Year's visit- which like the last not_on_fire visit involved me drinking too much and sleeping too little, but enjoying myself enough not to care. The other is about my weekend trip to "The city of dead angels" aka "The wasteland of despair and broken dreams", but more accurately referred to as Los Angeles, California.
So, I'll take the advice of Monty Python and "Get on with it!"

1. Killing 2006: A New Years Odyssey.

This is quite long and pretty much only for the benefit of reflection of those who experienced it.
