Good news! I'm going to Disneyland next week! Yup. "That chick who makes all the animated icons" has never been to a Disney theme park, but is finally going on a halfway across the country family road trip ( Read more... )

Woot, Disneyland! I just went for the first time this summer since I'm a Disney Employee for the summer (up at the studio in burbank, not at the park).

The bad news? They're not doing VMK quests anymore at Disneyland. They stopped June 3rd, *just* before I got there for the summer. You can still get cards at Pooh's Corner candy shop, the Animation Academy in California Adventure, the magic shop on main street, and I think still the hat shop. They might have the Finding Nemo middle now, they didn't when I was last there. (If you plan to go on Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, go *first thing* in the morning. If you don't get there right around opening, it's a 3 hour wait pretty much all day.)

If you end up coming to the Burbank area to go to Universal Studios or something, you should stop by the Disney Studios. They don't actually have tours, but you can see the Team Disney building (the one with the seven dwarfs on it) from the street. If you drop me a line ahead of time, I could even get you in and give you a tour, but it isn't terribly interesting - there are only seven sound stages, and you're not allowed in them. The archives is interesting though, they have a ton of old Disney stuff. There's also a fantastic Disney Store on the lot - I'm always in danger of spending my entire paycheck there.

Yay for Sleeping Beauty icons. I need more of those.

Oh yeah I have two friends who live near the park that play VMK and another that works at the park, so I know about them removing the kiosk. One month before I'm supposed to go too! Oh well. That's not the reason I wanted to go since I was six.

We're only going to be in the area a couple days, Tuesday and Wednesday I think, so I'm not sure if we'll have time for anything except Disneyland and maybe California Adventure. That sounds like something I would love to see though, so I'll bring it up with my family and see what they think. That's awesome that you work there.

It's a great internship, and I'm so glad I got it. The perks have included meeting execs, seeing Ratatouille a week before it came out during lunch, and they're taking us all down to Disneyland for a day where we'll get a behind the scenes tour, among other things. They're definitely nice to their interns.

If you're only going to be here for two days, I'd say spend them both in the parks. There's enough to do to fill two days, especially when there are lines. As neat as the archives are and everything, it's probably not worth the 45min-1hr drive to get up to the area if you're not planning to anyways.

For the park, I've learned fastpass is your very best friend. In Disneyland, you can get as many as you want, but in California Adventure you can only get two at a time. Also, if there's a ride one of you wants to go on but nobody else does, or if you just want to fill a few minutes and don't mind being separated, check the map for the rides with "single rider" lines. I was by myself for a bit when I was there, and I rode Splash Mountain three times, getting on the first log when I got there, and literally getting off, climbing up the stairs, and getting right back on again. That was while the regular line was over an hour wait.

Yeah if we stayed longer I'd definitely want to check it out. We're driving though and my dad wants to see the Grand Canyon an the Hoover Dam.

Actually I'm probably going to be able to get one of those passes to skip the lines for health reasons, because of a surgery I had a few years back. So no lines for me, which should make things easier and faster to get through. Which is good, since I get the feeling my daughter will attempt to live where the princesses are.
