commenting and my FAQ

Apr 17, 2006 14:00

I've made this post before, but recently it has become increasingly evident that I need to make it again.

If you go through my entries here, please please please only make one or two comments. See, I use Gmail, which groups all my email comments by the livejournal post they are replies to. So the huge flood of comments I get from a new post are all in one place where I can just scroll down and read them all at once and it's not a problem.
However, when I get one comment at a time on 15 different entries, I get 15 different emails with nothing but "I took #12, will credit" which you can probably imagine is quite annoying to go through. Seriously, I came home to 19 of them yesterday, woke up to 12 today, and it was only 2 or 3 people combined that did it each time. And I don't want to turn my comment emails off in case of questions.

So really, it'd be easier on me and easier on you if you only commented on one or two entries. After a certain point, I no longer even need to know what number you took (I can usually tell which were most popular by the first 50-100 comments), and just one comment saying "I took some from Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Lady and the Tramp, and Charlie Brown Christmas" would certainly work just fine.

Also, I link to my FAQ every time I make an icon post. Yet, every time I make an icon post, I get at least one or two people asking the same exact questions that are on it. This last week I got five or six of them. So really, I made it for a reason, and if you have any questions that aren't on the FAQ, feel free to ask there.
I understand people needing to know things, I never would've been able to make icons without learning things first, but I have better things to do (like making icons) than to repeatedly answer the same question or constantly relink people to something that they've been linked to already at the top of the very post they're replying to.

In the end, it's all about reading more carefully. I link to my FAQ every time, and I've said that bit about commenting at the bottom of several posts.

I'm not angry at any of you, just consider this as a reminder.
