in huntington layne would hate going with me to the mall because i'd always know people and would either stop, or be passing people and saying hi.
at warren wilson, they called me the church lady because i knew everyone and knew them well enough to tell you where they were from, or who they were dating.
a couple nights ago, i went to (www.thesimpleway.com) see shane claiborne speak here in raleigh. he helped start this community in phile to work with the homeless people there. they pretty much just let people crash in their house, they cook together, etc. but he's seen as a radical/progressive because he lives how jesus would have lived. he's completely giving of himself. he wrote a book called the irresistable revolution. AANYWAY. it's totally up my alley.
but i went with friends of mine from pcm (presby campus ministry), and didn't recognize anyone else there. sure, there were one or two from my coffee shop, or a friend of a friend. but i didn't have that sense of belonging. if shane would have come to warren wilson, or huntington, i could have introduced you to most of the people there. i just really felt kinda out of it. especially since it's totally my thing. i feel like the people that were there could have just as well have been nathan ballentine, justin wood, or cliff haddox.
by the way, shane's the shit. he's this tall lanky dude from eastern tennessee... this is what he was talking about the other night :
