Hello dear Friends and Family,
Right now our team is in the beautiful area of Kanchanaburi. If you've
seen
the movie or read the book "Bridge Over the Rive Kuai', well that's
where
we're at. There is much history here from the War and it's also
beautiful
jungles and very different from our time in Bangkok.
But before we tell you about Kanchanaburi, I'll feel you in on our last
week. Every week we have our open ministry time where we can each pray
and
see where God would take us in Bangkok. Some went to visit our new
monk
friend, others went to Pat Pong to minister to the ladies, a few of the
guys
prayed around the main mall by the University, and others stayed back
to
worship and pray with our Thai Christian friends at Baan Jai Diaow.
Many of the Thai Christians that live at Baan Jai Diaow are the only
Christians in their family. They are now very much alone in their
lives by
choosing Christ. They are in their teens and twenties, mostly all
going to
University and being dicipled by the YWAM staff where they live. Most
of
them just met God months or a few years ago. For many here in
Thailand,
they have never even heard of Jesus, let alone know what it means to
live
for him. Many of them met God from previous YWAM San Francisco DTS
teams
teaching English or other YWAM teams. The whole day, we just wanted to
love
and encourage them in thier faith and walk with God. They shared their
stories. Some had been Buddist Monks or caught up in life styles that
just
tore them apart. The joy they have in Christ is amazing.
On the 29th of December was the opening of 'Chronicles of Narnia" here.
We
invited all of our friends for the first showwing on opening day. So,
44 of
us made our way to the mall and were blessed by this amazing movie.
Most of
them never heard of the stories and because of their new faith we very
touched by all the themes that are all about Jesus. It was a lot of
fun.
For New Year's Eve, Baan Jai Diaow threw us a going away party with a
Thai
style Bar-que (can you say 'aroi', it means delicious!). We had a fun
night
of food and games where everyone ended up covered in Baby Powder. We
had a
blast ringing in the new year with all of them.
The next day we headed into Kanchanaburi. YWAM has a young couple that
live
in what seems like the middle of nowhere, a beautiful little village.
They
own a goat farm and use it as a tool to reach out to the village for
Christ.
They have not hosted teams for nearly a year, since last year
tsunami, as
some of the staff now are stationed serving the victims down there.
But,
the couple has much history with YWAM San Francisco and graciously
invited
us into their village to stay with them. For the young couple it's a
blessing to be surrounded by YWAMers since much of their time is just
with
the village and their goat ministry. We are loving it!!!
We have spend our last few days in prayer, worship, and team time. On
our
way here, we stopped at the bridge I mentioned above. That evening we
watched a movie called "To End All Wars" about the history of this
place and
it was so good to get heart for it.
Today we spent our time riding elephants and as I type the rest of the
team
is enjoying the waterfalls. We are excited about leaving for Vietnam
in a
few days and being here in Kanchanaburi was a blessing to get refreshed
and
ready for this next season God has for us.
Thank you for your prayers and support. We are blessed by them every
day!
Love,
The San Francisco DTS!
