One of the things I love about my friend Anne is that she is always so positive about things. I can be having a really awful day and she is there to cheer me up. She is a source of optimism and good things. We almost always laugh together. It makes volunteering at Harper Asprey so much nicer.
So, we went into Harper Asprey Tuesday and it wasn’t horribly busy. I am glad because my shoulder and back are hurting quite a bit.
Most of the birds are gone and the jackdaw will be released at Brian May’s soon as he needs to grow back some tail feathers. The crow with the gunshot wound is healing well, but is on heavy antibiotics to fend off infection. The fox that was hit by a car is doing well and will be released. We have a lot of hedgehogs, and that’s about it.
While we were there a fox was brought in that was poisoned and subsequently hit by a car. Anne brought her in and both Anne and her husband Steve were covered in bramble scratches and bleeding badly. The fox that came in was a little vixen and was one of the smallest we have seen. She is as cute as a button and hopefully she will make it. It isn’t easy to tell how they will do.
Our vet Jill came in, sedated the vixen, and checked her over. If she makes it for the next 48 hours or so she should be okay.
I am doing all of the administration for the rescue now. I enter what animals came in, treatments, who brought them in, weight, size, medications given and eventual outcome. I will be taking care of tracking all of the donations and sending emails out thanking people soon as well. I can do this kind of stuff at home.
So, things are quiet, but we will be getting ready for baby season very soon. We are hoping that less people bring in animals that aren’t really orphaned. We are trying to educate the public on what is an appropriate casualty.
