Bats Sing, Mice Giggle
by Karen Shanor and Jagmeet Kanwal
272 pages

I wasn’t sure if I would like this book or not, but it was pretty good. It didn’t go in depth as much as I would have liked, but it wasn’t as fluffy as the title led me to believe.

The book tracks research done by scientists into the “secret lives” of animals. Many people have sensed that there is more to animals than many people want to give them credit for and this book uses this research to discuss how animals express grief and how some animals can calculate and problem solve. It also discusses how animals communicate and entertain themselves!

Some of the scientific terminology is a bit difficult to get through, and this book isn’t as exciting as I hoped it would be ( which is the fault of the authors since the subject matter is amazing) but I am still very glad I read it and I hope to read more on the subject soon.
