Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have less than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of them. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.
Bach: What can I say? I love the man's work. As a former cellist and current vocalist, it's practically a requirement that you learn to respect the details of his compositions. His six cello solos are among my favorite string compositions to listen to (I can almost barely sort of play one of them), and his cantatas, while they make my jaw/neck/knee tension infinitely worse for reasons I don't quite understand, are SO much fun to sing.
Bumper stickers: ... I... like bumperstickers with interesting/funny/political/evil quotes and stuff? It's usually what I really notice about someone else's car, and I try to remember clever ones. My former co-worker, Isis, has one that says "My mutt is smarter than your honor student." I saw two great ones while driving to work in July: "Save the environment: plant a Bush back in Texas" and "Warning: invisible dragon in the backseat." I... just like them. The ability to be weird/political/argumentative/witty while staying between the lines on the roadway is precious indeed.
Classical music: Okay, so we're starting a theme? Anyway. I like it because.... it can be anything. People often have this misconception that it's all slow, soothing, pretty fluff. I can disprove that in about five minutes with the right CDs. No matter what the music is - fast, slow, dissonant, pure, happy or sad - it is all composed with thought. It's all beautiful.
Driving: One of the "small pleasures" that I really enjoy is driving for no reason... roll down a window, put on some good, fast-paced music, and just drive. See where I end up. Find a new back road, or a hidden little coffee shop, or something like that. I just... like it.
Flying: This could mean both "airplane trips" and flying like a bird... I do enjoy planes. I guess that's in my genes. When it comes right down to it, it's nice to be able to just sit and read or write or do nothing, and at the same time be on my way to somewhere new or exciting, or a familiar place that I love. Then... the dragon in me wants to FLY. I always feel jealous when I'm watching birds. I wish I knew what it was like - I wish I could do that. And when I see an injured bird, or a dead seagull on the beach, or a captive one in a cage, it makes me feel sad.
Great Big Sea: A band who does some really interesting sorts of music. Sort of... celtic style, but with a lot of rock influence. They do some folk music and sea shanties and fun things like that, and then write a bit of their own. Their style is really unique. I first heard them about two years ago, when I was staying in Cannon Beach, in Oregon. There was music playing in Osbourne's Ice Cream Shop, and it was so transfixing that I had to ask the server what it was - she told me it was Great Big Sea. I went and downloaded some that very night. I ought to buy some CDs, because CDs are good.
Inuyasha: ... is not so much of a big thing anymore. It's been a while since I've pruned my list. *sighs* Not that I don't like it. It's just a little repetitive. Sesshoumaru is still a sexy creature, though. That'll never change.
Kenjutsu: As opposed to kendo, which is a sport, kenjutsu is a martial art. It's the samurai-ish sword art. I believe it translates as "the art of the sword" or something along those lines ("justsu" meaning art or skill or whatever - i.e. bijutsu or jujutsu). I would sell a kidney to be able to learn it, seriously - there are so few schools in the US, and even fewer are certified by the masters in Japan. It's graceful, and deadly, and incredibly cool to look at.
Ninja: Who doesn't love ninja?
Pink Floyd: An excellent not-quite-rock band, from England in the seventies. Their music is smooth, surreal, slightly on the psychadelic side, and a good deal of it is a little messed up, but hey, that's why we listen to it. I love their movie, The Wall - it's basically taking everything that their generation didn't like about society, throwing it in a big pile, and taking a collective shit on it. Slightly war-protest-y, slightly anti-government, and a whole lot of really whacked-out STUFF. In musical form, of course. Fannnnntastic.
Records: I like records. You know. LP's. The things you put on turnables. Remember those? They're fun. As I have a turntable at home, and my brother and I listen to our record collection quite frequently, it's not just about being stuck in the seventies. Okay, so maybe it is. But not that much. I LOVE going to Half Price Books and pawing through their records. They're usually really cheap, and you can pick out all sorts of great finds. My brother got a load of Pink Floyd albums there, and some great old Beatles ones. I, personally, have been collecting Chicago records for a couple years.
Roy Mustang:
YOU tell ME what's not to like. Shounen-ai: Literally, "boy love". It refers to male/male relationships in anime and manga (as does "yaoi", though shounen-ai is more fluffy, whereas yaoi tends to be physical/leaning in the pornographic direction, or something like that). What can I say? I think it's pretty. Mostly, I just like it when its canon (for example, Roy/Ed in Fullmetal Alchemist is just ewww, but Soubi/Ritsuka in Loveless is impossibly cute), but there are a few non-canon pairings for which the fanart can be really cute.
The stage: ... theatre. Theatre is good. Theatre is love. You cannot deny it. Resistance is futile.
Writing: Granted, I don't do nearly as much of it as I should, but I like sculpting words around and seeing what comes out of it. Especially when it's got a purpose. Like the big war history thing I'm writing for the Toisian roleplay. And even just the roleplaying posts themselves. I put waaay too much effort into these things.
That was... fun.
September nineteenth is International Speak Like A Pirate Day. Love it good.
