Little Eva on the Prairie

I love when the power goes out. I get to turn into little Eva on the prairie*, light candles and wear a stupid little light around my neck, and write on actual paper. With pens! And pencils! Well, only after the battery to my crappity laptop runs down, which was after about 5 minutes.

The power-outage forced people to get out of their dark homes and into the remaining sunlight of the late evening. It was amazing! People were outside! Children were testing their rollerskates. We ate whilst sitting on lawn chairs! Too bad we didn't have a picnic table.

Amazingly, I spent time outdoors even before that. I chilled in the heat in the back yard for the first time since I've gotten back, and my dog joined me. It's not the same when that word is singular (dog)... but it still doesn't feel like he's really gone. Probably because I haven't witnessed any proof of it. He just hasn't been here since I've gotten back; he hasn't been near his dog house, I haven't heard his bark or heard him howling at the train... when I look at pictures of him, it's like it hasn't even hit me. Angel still acts the same when I mention his name, she goes nuts... Maybe she thinks it means something else?

But I digress. It was a nice day.
