If you wanted to believe?

My (lax christian) father asked me if I wanted to believe in God, even though I couldn't. I told him no, and he seemed incredibly suprised. Does anyone else (who doesn't believe in God) wish that they could?

These are my reasons for saying no:

-From my point of view, christianity is wrong, so believing it would be living a lie. I might not think it is a lie once I started believing, but why would I make that choice, seeing what I do now.

-More fundamentalist branches of christianity are homophobic and morally wrong (according to moi) in loads of ways, and being lesbian, it doesn't sound great.

-I believe in reincarnation, or thats the theory at least. I only really believe in reincarnation sometimes.

-There are many religions I would prefer to believe in, such as Druidism and Wicca.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you believe if you could? Or do you already believe, in which case I would like to hear why.

DISCLAIMER: This is not intended as an attack at believers - I have absolutely no problem with non-fundamentalist believers of any religion. My desire to hear why you believe is not an attempt to change your mind. I would honestly like to understand.
