We are Anonymous

Dec 13, 2010 01:06

I'm assuming most people know about Anonymous, WWP, and the current Julian Assange BS thats going on, so this might turn out to be more of a discussion post, rather than informative. But, I'll outline the basics.

Anonymous is not an organization. There are no official members, guidelines, leaders, representatives or unifying principles. Rather, Anonymous is a word that identifies the millions of people, groups, and individuals on and off of the internet who, without disclosing their identities, express diverse opinions on many topics. To be Anonymous does not imply thinking or acting in concert with others who are Anonymous; rather, it describes a way of communicating and promoting social change.

In other words, Anonymous fights the fight for human rights. I took the quote from WhyWeProtest (WWP), which is a nice forum dedicated to anonymous connecting and organizing.

Now, onto Julian Assange. He is an austrian journalist, and founder of wikileaks, the site dedicated to leaking goverment secrets. He's currently in a prison in London, although legally, he's done nothing wrong (its a tough subject, actually, but most people think that what he's doing is legal). Sweden are trying to extradite him for 'rape', although the supposed rape consists of casual (and between consenting adults) sex without a condom. Most people, I among them, think the US is behind it, considering how hard they've been trying to get him in prison.

That brings me back to Anons. We're basically crashing sites that have anything to do with shutting wikileaks down, or anything to do with anti-Julian Assange. So help us.

I'm just the messenger, and I'm doing my bit to get the word out. Feel free to spread the information further.
